Lenny Dee and Casual Affair
Lenny Dee is not only the "fixer" for the Casual Affair Cabaret Show Band, he is the
vocalist, comedian and bass player. When he is not playing with the band he does warm-ups for
BBC and ITV televison shows. In the past he has produced and presented variety shows
in West Wales theatres. He is a versitile entertainer with an eye for spotting talent.
When Lenny got together with Ian Griffin, Britain's award winning keyboard player, they formed
their own cabaret show band and have included the talent of several singers who have
since joined the chorus line at the London Palladium. Their current singer is glamourous
Jo St.Claire, who is so enthusiastic about show business that she has her own web site with
vocal tracks on it.
Another member of the band is drummer Rob Gillespie, who also adds his vocal talent to the band.
It's Rob's talent for rhythm that lays down the foundation for the big band sounds produced
by Ian Griffin with his two keyboards and bass pedals.
Going back to the 1990's, one of the band's proudest achievements was the appearance on
HTV "Friday Night Live" when Ian was the musical director with the task of backing the singers
in the Welsh talent show competition. The panel of celebrity judges
included Hughie Green of "Opportunity Knocks" fame. The live audience was, of course, warmed up by Lenny before
going on air. Since then Casual Affair has done several outside broadcasts for Radio Wales at various
venues including the Royal Welsh Showground.
The band's professional touch has attracted much attention at show cases where they have won several
show business awards between 2001 and 2005. Their ambition is to be involved with another
television series, this time networked over the whole of the UK.
